Hawksmoor reviews
We kicked off proceedings with a couple of cocktails - expertly made - at the bar, before we moved to our table in the dining area. The ambiance is very relaxed, and the decor makes good use of many original features of the old brewery that the building once housed.
For our starters, we both chose half a Dorset lobster with hazelnut butter - delicious, despite not being as hazelnutty in flavour as I had hoped. Mains were Porterhouse steak and beef dripping chips with a side of creamed spinach for hubbie, baked butternut squash with goat's curd and wild mushrooms for me. Also both very tasty.
As it became obvious I was going to leave my dining partner lagging behind whilst he made his way through the enormous cut of meat (it was a bit like watching a lion steadily devour the best part of a wildebeast), he suggested I order a dessert. Ah well, if you insist... So indulged myself with a personal favourite: sticky toffee pudding, with a dollop of thick clotted cream - to keep him company.
Replete and happy, we left the restaurant vowing to make more time to eat out together... especially when the food is as good as it is here.
